CHUBBUCK HOSTS FIRST EVER YOUTH ICE HOCKEY GAME
(Chubbuck, ID)–February 12, 2009
The Chubbuck-Pocatello NightHawks hosted an Idaho Falls Squirt Travel team in the valley’s first ever organized youth ice hockey game Thursday, February 12, 2009 at the ice sheet next to Chubbuck City Hall. Approximately 25 players participated, watched by parents, coaches, and various volunteers with the Chubbuck-Pocatello Hockey Association. Chubbuck Mayor Steve England dropped the ceremonial opening face-off for this history-making event. The teams played 3, 15 minute periods, and a 4th overtime period.
“It proves the theory, ‘If you build it, they will come’ ” , said CPHA member Denny Gasper, whose son Austin is one of the mainstays for the Chubbuck NightHawks hockey team. “With the development of a maintained outdoor ice sheet in Capell Park, we are able to offer quality skating to teams and players from around the region, and we’re thrilled to have our friends from Idaho Falls come down to play this game.”
A second contest with a more advanced Idaho Falls Travel Hockey Team is scheduled for Tuesday, February 24.
