CPHA was recognized by NBC 6 for supporting youth programs:
You don’t score unless you shoot. A local hockey league and family center are teaming up to take a shot on some local youth.
It’s tough to beat the feeling of scoring big.
Marie Sprayberry, Parent: “Oh he is has been jacked. I’ve been hearing about it for weeks”
Marie Sprayberry’s son is one of several kids learning the game of roller hockey.
Sprayberry: “He has been wanting something that allows him to fit in and be a part of team somewhere.”
Organizers of the the Chubbuck Pocatello Hockey Association and Portneuf Valley Family Center have teamed up to score big for all kids. Hoping that once they take their first shot they won’t quit. They are offering free registration and equipment for underprivileged children.
Joe Arzola, Portneuf Valley Family Center: “Kids who are involved in activities especially sporting events have more success rate in school, life in general and what we’re trying to do is get them involved to help them learn skills they need to be successful not only here in the rink but life.”
The league has already spent $3,000 on equipment and plans to spend another $1,500, enough to outfit about 15 kids with pads and skates and of course helmet and stick too.”
The idea is to get kids playing.Ralph Bennet, Assoc Pres.: “I want the kids out here today like these kids who have never tried this. Hockey can get a little expensive to outfit that’s why we bought all the free equipment so that we an have and it’s available.”
Sparrow says it’s a shot worth taking.
Sparrow: “There may be some in the community who wouldn’t have the opportunity otherwise”
Spring roller hockey starts April 10th. League play begins May 8th and runs every Tuesday at 6:30 PM for free pickup hockey for kids. The adults start at 8 PM.
