For over five decades, hockey fans and players didn’t have a rink in the Pocatello/Chubbuck area. But on Friday, all of that changed. Lauren Johnson has more.
It’s a reason some people move to Pocatello and Chubbuck – the outdoor sports and recreation. But for 50 years, winter sport enthusiasts who wanted to participate in ice hockey had to make the drive to Idaho Falls.
Today, the sound of pucks and skates hit the ice while Salmon Hockey Youth League used Eastern Idaho’s newest skating rink at Capell Park in Chubbuck. Robert Barningham is the father of one of the players, and drove four hours to watch his son participate and play today.
Robert Barningham, traveled from Salmon: “Well, it’s nice to see more associations getting started and different places and options we can go and take the kids to games.”
The rink opened Friday and the Chubbuck/Pocatello Ice Hockey Association has said they are thrilled.
