Another Step Toward the Goal

By Hockey Admin | September 1, 2008

Reaching another large milestone toward the eventual construction of a dual rink, indoor recreational facility, the Chubbuck Pocatello Hockey Association has purchased two Zamboni ice resurfacing machines from a hockey league in Canada.

The two machines, both of which are fully operational and in exceptional condition, came from Turlteford, Saskatchewan. The folks in Turtleford wanted these machines to go to a small association where they could really make a difference for the growth of the game.

Purchased with the help of a grant from the Charlotte Martin Foundation, the machines will be used this winter to remove snow from and groom an outdoor pond-type ice rink adjacent to the Association’s outdoor inline hockey rink in Chubbuck’s Capell Park. The photo below shows the high quality, outdoor pond-ice in Salmon, Idaho, which is groomed by an ice resurfacing machine.

CPHA is now seeking grant and donation funds for a second set of boards and a 50 ton chiller so that it can build a refrigerated outdoor ice rink next to the Capell Park inline rink. The photos below depict a similar outdoor rink in Salmon, ID.

This facility will provide reliable ice hockey and skating for 4 1/2 to 5 months a year, allowing the Association to host tournaments and create a home for  house, travel, and high school hockey programs that will soon rival those in Salmon, Idaho Falls, Boise, Nampa, and Coeur d’Alene. With sufficient community support, the CPHA is looking to cover both rinks, creating a year-round, multi-use recreational facility for the City of Chubbuck and surrounding areas.

Those wishing to donate money to the Kids need a place to play! Capital Campaign to build the refrigerated outdoor ice rink can click on this link.

Please help us take the next step in giving kids a place to play in Chubbuck and Pocatello.
